Chicago Public Safety Technology Pilot: 6 Districts [2026]
Chicago public safety technology pilot targets 6 CPD districts two years after ShotSpotter ended. What is confirmed, what is not. Chicago is planning to test public safety technology in six police districts in 2026, two years after the city dropped ShotSpotter. The pilot will include Chicago Police Department Districts 2, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11 and will assess effectiveness, reliability and privacy protections before the city commits to a long-term purchase. The announcement was made in a letter from Chief Procurement Officer Sharla Roberts to Ald Emma Mitts, who chairs the City Council’s Contracting Oversight Committee. The city has not publicly named the vendor or vendors in the pilot, nor have disclosed any performance results or product name.
